The former vice-president (VP) of Dhaka University Central Students' Union (DUCSU) Nurul Haque Nur was arrested from a protest rally at Shahbagh in the capital on Monday.
Sajjadur Rahman, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Deputy Commissioner of Ramna division confirmed matter to Banglanews.
Ramna thana police arrested Nur and later he would be handed over to DB police, Sajjadur Rahman added.
The rally was organised protesting a rape case filed earlier in the day by a student of Dhaka University against Nur and five others.
A student of Dhaka University filed the case against six people including Nur with Lalbag police station on Sunday night.
AKM Ashraf Uddin, officer-in-charge of Lalbag police station, said: “In the case, complainant claimed that the rape incident took place in Nawabganj area of Lalbagh in Old Dhaka.”
