A group of youths have tortured a 36-year-old woman in Eklashpur Union of Noakhali's Begumganj Upazila by stripping her naked. The woman was not saved even after repeatedly calling the perpetrators' father.
A video of the torture went viral on social media on Sunday afternoon, causing a commotion in the district. Tonak nare administration. Police have arrested a young man named Abdur Rahim (24) on suspicion of being involved in the incident. Abdur Rahim was arrested from Eklashpur around 6:30 pm. He is the son of Sheikh Ahmed Dulal of Jayakrishnapur village. He is the second-in-command of the local Delwar force chief Delwar, police said.
Meanwhile, the tortured woman and her family members locked their houses and fled the house for fear of the tortured terrorists. No statement was received from his relatives.
It is known that the woman got married three years ago. Within a few days of the marriage, when her husband remarried, they lost contact. On the night of September 2, the ex-husband entered her house to meet the woman. Delwar, a local drug dealer and the head of the Delwar force, saw the matter. Delwar and his men entered the woman's house around 10 pm last night and then started beating her, alleging that she had committed immoral acts with the man. At one stage, a video was taken of the woman being beaten and stripped naked.
The 1 minute 37 second video, which was spread on Facebook, shows one of the torturers pulling off the clothes of a young woman. At that time, the woman tried to cover her body with the bed sheet, mattress and various clothes on the bed. But some of the torturers pulled the clothes away from all sides. A young man repeatedly kicks her in the face. One bites at different places on his face and chest. A young man repeatedly touched and hit a woman's genitals. Another young man strangled him and tried to kill him. The woman was not saved even after repeatedly calling the perpetrators' father.
After watching the video, several people said that the chief of the local Delwar force, Delwar and his second-in-command Badal, Kalam, Saifuddin, Rahim and Sumon had tortured the woman 7-8. Locals demanded the arrest of Delwar and his men.
Begumganj Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Harunur Rashid Chowdhury admitted the incident, saying, "After watching the video on social media, the police conducted a raid in the evening on the instructions of higher authorities and arrested a member of the torture group named Abdur Rahim." During the preliminary interrogation of the police, Abdur Rahim admitted his involvement in the incident.
Noakhali Police Super Md. Alamgir Hossain said, "One of the people involved in the incident has been arrested. Attempts are being made to arrest the rest. Those involved in this heinous act, no matter how powerful, will be brought to justice and given exemplary punishment.
